Olympics 2024: In a match at Roland Garros, Rafael Nadal loses to Novak Djokovic in straight sets

Novak Djokovic defeated Rafael Nadal in a thrilling match, winning the opening set 6-1 and coming back from 4-0 down in the second set to tie it at 4-4 before securing the victory. British player Dan Evans was eliminated with a 6-1, 6-2 loss to Stefanos Tsitsipas.

Djokovic triumphed over Nadal 6-1, 6-4 in their second-round clash at the Olympic men’s singles at Roland Garros. The anticipated match between the 24-time Grand Slam champion Djokovic and Nadal, a 14-time French Open winner, initially appeared one-sided as Djokovic easily took the first set 6-1.

Djokovic broke Nadal’s serve in his first two service games, quickly gaining a 5-0 lead. Although Nadal held his third service game, Djokovic continued his dominance by breaking Nadal twice more in the second set.

Nadal, a 22-time Grand Slam champion, showed resilience, breaking back twice to level the second set at 4-4. However, Djokovic managed to break Nadal’s serve again and sealed the match.

This victory pushes Djokovic ahead 31-29 in their 60 career meetings, while Nadal leads 5-4 in their nine Grand Slam finals. Djokovic continues his quest for his first Olympic gold medal, while Nadal, who won gold in Beijing 2008, now focuses on the men’s doubles with Carlos Alcaraz.

British player Dan Evans exited the men’s singles after a 6-1, 6-2 defeat to Stefanos Tsitsipas. Evans had previously won a dramatic first-round match in men’s doubles with Andy Murray but struggled against Tsitsipas, losing in just 52 minutes. Evans, still recovering from a knee injury, will partner with Murray again in the doubles.
