Philadelphia Eagles cut CB Mario Goodrich and signs OL Nick Gates

CBS Philadelphia, PA The Philadelphia Eagles made two roster changes on Tuesday as training camp got underway. The Eagles cut cornerback Mario Goodrich and added offensive lineman Nick Gates, an experienced player.

The 28-year-old Gates has played in the NFC East for his entire NFL career. He played with the Washington Commanders the previous season after playing for the New York Giants for the previous four. In 2018, as an undrafted free agent, he signed with the Giants to start his NFL career.

Gates made 10 starts and participated in 13 games during the 2023 campaign. Over the course of five seasons, he has made 29 starts and has played center and guard. In the 2022 season, he was ranked sixth and garnered two votes for the NFL AP Comeback Player of the Year Award. In 2021, he suffered a fracture to his left fibula.

The inside offensive line of the Eagles is currently sidelined by several injuries. Right guard Tyler Steen is questionable due to an ankle injury, and left guard Landon Dickerson was not in the game on Tuesday.

Goodrich joined the Eagles as an undrafted free agent in 2022 and has since gone on and off the practice squad and roster of the team. In his career, he has participated in four games, one of which he started in 2023.
