Daren Sammy and Matthews are enthusiastic about promoting the “health, fitness, and well-being” of CPL

The head coaches of the West Indies Men’s and Women’s white-ball teams, Daren Sammy and Hayley Matthews, respectively, expressed their excitement about contributing meaningfully to the new advisory board for health, fitness, and well-being that the Caribbean Premier League (CPL) organizers are forming.

The new advisory board will be composed of Matthews and Sammy, Dr. Akshai Mansingh, the League’s joint chief medical officer, and Dr. Maryam Abdool-Richards, the principal medical officer of the Trinidad and Tobago Ministry of Health.

“I am excited to work with the health and wellbeing advisory board and CPL to create initiatives that will encourage participation,” Matthew stated in a CPL news release. “I am passionate about women and girls across the Caribbean being involved in sport and fitness.”

“I intend to provide a fresh viewpoint to the talks as someone who manages an athletic career while battling diabetes.”

“I place a great deal of importance on the health and well-being of Caribbean people, particularly our youth, for whom my foundation works tirelessly,” Sammy continued.

“I am thrilled to be a part of this fantastic CPL initiative, and I look forward to contributing to the development of meaningful programs that result from our new partnership.”

As to the CPL press release, the advisory board will convene on a quarterly basis with senior CPL personnel to provide guidance to the tournament regarding the optimal utilization of its platform to encourage wellness and healthy living.

CPL CEO Pete Russell stated, “We want to use cricket and our platform as a force for good in this area. Health, fitness, and well-being are very important issues across the Caribbean and around the world.”

We are excited to collaborate with the advisory board to develop significant, long-lasting programs that improve people’s health and well-being in the area.

“This season, there will be fun activities at the games that promote fitness and health, inviting everyone to participate and have a good time.”

Guyana Amazon Warriors will compete in the CPL tournament this year from August 29 to October 6, hoping to retain their crown.

The Barbados Royals, St. Lucia Kings, St. Kitts & Nevis Patriots, Trinbago Knight Riders, and the recently established Antigua & Barbuda Falcons—who will take the place of the Jamaica Tallawahs franchise—will all present difficulties to them.
