Matthijs de Ligt and Noussair Mazraoui express their emotions when Manchester United’s twin bid is turned down by Bayern Munich

Manchester United has made the Bayern pair an initial two-year offer.

After Bayern Munich rejected Manchester United’s initial double bid for Matthijs de Ligt and Noussair Mazraoui, there is currently “bemusement” in their camp.

De Ligt and Mazraoui are being targeted by United as they continue to restructure their roster in the wake of Joshua Zirkzee and Leny Yoro’s summer additions.

For several months now, De Ligt has been heavily linked to a move to Old Trafford. He has also held discussions with Erik ten Hag, who has publicly acknowledged United’s continued interest in the defender.

“I won’t dispute that, I know Matthijs very well,” he said to the Dutch daily AD Sportwereld. “Two years ago I wanted to get him, but he was already very far along with Bayern Munich.”

Ten Hag continued, “We still have to wait and see whether De Ligt will come.”

After playing a supporting role for Munich in the last campaign, right-back Noussair Mazraoui is eager to join the Old Trafford team. Talks between United and Bayern about a deal for Mazraoui are also progressing.

According to The Athletic, De Ligt and Mazraoui have already agreed to personal terms on five-year contracts with a one-year option to extend.

Furthermore, based on their assessment of the defensive pair, the article implies that there was hope at United and among the players’ representation that the aforementioned double offer would “satisfy” Bayern.

The Bundesliga team made it plain that neither De Ligt nor Mazraoui were in their plans for the summer, but they rejected United’s initial offer in a decision that left their camp “bemused.”

Rafaela Pimenta is the same agent that represents both De Ligt and Mazraoui.

De Ligt is reportedly valued by Bayern at approximately £42.4 million plus add-ons, while Mazraoui may leave for as little as £20 million.

De Ligt adores United manager Ten Hag. He supported his previous manager to be successful in Manchester after the former Ajax manager took over at Old Trafford in 2022.

De Ligt remarked, “He is someone who loves his job and he loves to work.” He pays close attention to details. Because of this, he is an excellent trainer.

“He possesses many traits (to succeed). He undoubtedly makes players better. His goal is to improve his team’s performance in whatever way possible.
