BREAKING NEWS: Five-star OT prospect for Oklahoma Michael Fasusi chooses Oklahoma over Texas

Five-star offensive tackle Michael Fasusi committed to Oklahoma on Wednesday, beating out Texas and other top recruits.

Fasusi, ranked 27th overall by 247Sports, considered Missouri, Oregon, and Texas A&M before committing to Oklahoma.

247Sports lists Fasusi as the No. 5 offensive tackle and No. 8 overall prospect from talent-rich Texas for the 2024 cycle. The 6-foot-5 lineman from Lewisville High School in Dallas-Fort Worth is a senior.

The Sooners and third-year coach Brent Venables won big by luring a top talent from Texas and Texas A&M. OU has 23 players, including Fasusi, its first five-star commitment of the cycle.

The 247Sports Team Rankings predict Oklahoma’s class will rise from 11th to 8th with Fasusi’s acquisition. Here is more on Fasusi’s game from 247Sports scouting analyst Gabe Brooks:

A gifted O-lineman with book-end tackle potential. Possesses good physical tools and promising athletic context in track and field and combine testing areas. Legitimately 6-foot-5 with lengthy arms and a huge reach. Wears mass well and owns space to add extra bulk. Multi-sport athlete with 50+ shot put and 150+ discus prowess. Grew up playing soccer and is young for the 2025 cycle. Similarly explosive metrics in vertical and broad jump relative to OT prediction. Shows foot quickness and agility to live on an island in pass protection. Nimbleness corresponds to movement ability in the run game. Flashes some punch power that should become more consistent with more growth. Improved phone-booth strength from sophomore to junior year. Length and athleticism help in recovery vs. twitchy edge speed, but will need to maintain technical development to match P4-caliber rivals at point of attack. Somewhat high-cut frame and plays erect at times.

Fasusi is Oklahoma’s second offensive lineman commitment of the 2025 cycle, joining four-star recruit Ryan Fodje. He is the Sooners’ fourth offensive line commit of the class. OU ended with the No. 12 class in the 247Sports Team Rankings for the Class of 2024 after signing the nation’s No. 6 class during the 2023 cycle.
