Latest Manchester United Transfer News: Antony Shines on Loan at Real Betis
Antony has once again sent a message to Manchester United with another standout performance during his loan spell at Real Betis.
The Brazilian winger departed Old Trafford in the January transfer window, joining Betis on loan for the remainder of the season. Before his move, Antony had struggled for form at United, scoring just once in 14 appearances this season—a penalty against Barnsley in the Carabao Cup back in September.
On Sunday night, Antony made his fourth appearance for Betis and played a key role in their 3-0 victory over Real Sociedad. The 24-year-old opened the scoring with a well-taken volley from the edge of the penalty area, threading the ball through a crowd of defenders past goalkeeper Alex Remiro. His goal tally for Betis now stands at three in just four matches, further fueling speculation about his long-term future.
Despite his success in Spain, Antony’s future beyond this season remains uncertain. United did not include a purchase option in their loan agreement with Betis, meaning he is set to return to Old Trafford in the coming months unless another arrangement is made.
While United technically have the option to recall him, Premier League regulations state that loan deals must last a minimum of 28 days—the same as a short-term loan. This means the earliest possible return date would be February 22, provided a recall clause exists in the deal. However, it remains unclear whether such a clause was included in the agreement that sent Antony to La Liga.
