Chido Obi Expresses Gratitude to Ruben Amorim After Manchester United Debut

Teenage talent Chido Obi took to social media to thank Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim for “making his dream come true” after making his senior debut for the club.

Obi was among several academy players named on the bench for United’s clash against Tottenham on Sunday. In stoppage time, Amorim brought the 17-year-old on to replace Casemiro, marking a significant milestone in his young career.

With his brief appearance, Obi became the 252nd player to graduate from United’s esteemed academy to feature for the first team.

Obi, who was previously signed from Arsenal, has consistently impressed in United’s youth setup, earning the attention of manager Ruben Amorim. His performances led to opportunities to train with the first team, and with several senior players unavailable, he was handed a call-up for the trip to London.

Since the start of the year, the teenager has continued to gain valuable experience with United’s U21 side, featuring twice in Premier League 2. Expressing his appreciation, Obi highlighted his gratitude for the opportunity to make his first-team debut.

Obi took to social media to express his feelings after the match, writing: “Disappointed with the loss – but on a personal note, thanks to the gaffer & the club for making a dream come true for me and my family.”

United fell to a narrow defeat, with James Maddison’s first-half goal proving decisive. Hoping to spark a late equalizer, Amorim introduced Obi in the closing moments, giving the young forward a chance to showcase his ability in the final third.

Amorim explained his decision, saying: “If you watch Chido play, he’s very clever with every loose ball in the box. So, I wanted to add another presence in there. I felt the team was playing well throughout the game, so I didn’t see the need for many changes. But Chido was that player who, with one long ball into the area, could have made the difference.”
