Ruben Amorim responds to Man Utd sack speculation following 12th Premier League defeat

Defiant Ruben Amorim Dismisses Job Fears Despite Nightmare Start at Man Utd

Manchester United head coach Ruben Amorim insists he is “not worried” about his future, despite enduring a turbulent first three months at Old Trafford.

Amorim arrived in November as United triggered a break clause in his Sporting CP contract, replacing Erik ten Hag with the highly-rated Portuguese coach. His impressive track record—breaking Sporting’s long title drought in 2020/21 and winning another league crown in 2023/24—made him one of Europe’s most sought-after managers.

However, his tenure at United has been anything but smooth. Determined to stick to his tactical philosophy rather than adapt to the squad he inherited, Amorim has faced significant struggles. With no summer transfer window or pre-season to shape the team in his vision, United have suffered on the pitch—Sunday’s loss to Tottenham marked their ninth defeat in 21 games, with just four wins in 14 Premier League matches. A dismal December saw five league losses alone.

Despite growing pressure and mounting criticism, Amorim remains steadfast, emphasizing that short-term struggles are necessary for long-term success. But with United’s form showing little sign of improvement, the question remains—how long will he be given to turn things around?

United will next travel to Everton on Saturday for a reunion with former boss David Moyes. At the beginning of December, Amorim defeated an Everton team then led by Sean Dyche 4-0 to record their first victory in English football.
