A meeting between Jon Rahm and the stars of LIV Golf is desired following the horror of the Open Championship

The potential of staging a links event prior to The Open the next year has been raised by Jon Rahm, who has disclosed that he would like to speak with officials and players from LIV Golf.

With his T7 result, the Spaniard’s weekend was disappointing; in contrast, Xander Schauffele won the Claret Jug following an incredible last round.

Rahm, 29, struggled on the course and in the breezy Scottish weather, just like a lot of other players, especially in the first round. Upon the ninth, Rahm and the Sky Sports pundits believed he had played into the breeze flawlessly, but the weather unexpectedly stopped, and his well-placed shot ended up in the woods.

In addition to appearing confused, the 29-year-old was also visibly upset by what had transpired. In order to assist him and other LIV players adjust, Rahm thinks that his difficulties and those of other players will serve as the impetus for the creation of a links tournament.

“I am pushing for it,” Rahm stated in an interview with Golf Digest. Understanding how the ball behaves on the ground and the greens are two of the many factors that go into adjusting to links golf.

“I didn’t think about it until after [Troon], but it is undeniable how much it helps to play a links golf course the week before the Open.”

Rahm feels strongly that a links event should be introduced, but he also acknowledged that this is not as easy as LIV players asking their Saudi Arabian Public Investment Fund sponsors to immediately approve a new event. He continued, saying: “LIV management has future plans and contracts in place with certain locations.

“Simply saying, ‘Well, let us do this,’ is not as straightforward as it seems.Nonetheless, I would like to discuss it with other players [on LIV].

Then, if five, six, or ten good players [all agree], there is strength in numbers. Many individuals might concur with that, in my opinion.”

Asking where he thought the links tournament may take place, the Spaniard replied, “I have always felt really welcome in Ireland.”

“It has a homey vibe, and I have played some of the most enjoyable rounds of golf there at some amazing locations. Thus, yes, it would be great if LIV Golf had the chance to play in Ireland.
