Boston Red Sox and New York Yankees are talking about trading for a top hitter on the MLB market

There is not much time left until today’s 6 PM ET MLB trade deadline closes for teams hoping to make moves. Although the Boston Red Sox and New York Yankees have both already altered their rosters, indications point to neither team being finished just yet.

According to the most recent MLB trade rumors, the two teams that compete with each other in the AL East division may be vying for the same player in talks to be sent to the Los Angeles Angels.

Potential trade targets for the Boston Red Sox and New York Yankees include Luis Rengifo and Taylor Ward.

Ahead of today’s deadline, trade speculations involving MLB are circulating. MLB Network insider Jon Morosi is stoking the flames right now.

The Los Angeles Angels “could move” Taylor Ward or Luis Rengifo today, according to Morosi. The Boston Red Sox, Pittsburgh Pirates, and New York Yankees are the teams that are currently known to have gotten in touch with the Angels.

Rengifo has produced in three of the last four seasons, with an OPS+ of 109 since 2022. The fact that Rengifo won’t be a free agent until 2026 and is also arbitration-eligible following the offseason is an extra benefit of signing him.

The case of Taylor Ward is a little different. His contract expires in 2027. However, helping a 30-year-old become a contender now makes more sense than holding out to see when the Angels can be competitive once more. Additionally, his season isn’t going nearly as well as Rengifo’s.

However, Ward can be a valuable addition to a team vying for a postseason spot if they’re looking for a right-handed hitting corner outfielder with some pop. He’s of little use to the Angels, who aren’t even close to being a winning team.
