Deandra Dottin has made the decision to come out of retirement and will be available for selection to play for the West Indies Women’s international cricket team once again. This news was released by Cricket West Indies (CWI) in St. John’s, Antigua.
Dottin wrote an emotional letter to CWI expressing her eagerness to get back into the game, writing:
Being a West Indian cricket representative has always been a source of immense pride and enthusiasm for me. I’m happy to tell you that, following some time of introspection and careful discussion with a number of Cricket West Indies stakeholders, including the organization’s president, Dr. Kishore Shallow, I’m keen to get back to my favorite sport and give the West Indies women’s team my all in all formats, starting right away.”
She went on,
“I’m sure that my maturity, experience, and abilities will benefit the team as they have in the past, and I’m ready to give it my all in every practice and game to guarantee the team’s successful trajectory in international cricket. In addition, I am excited to coach upcoming players and support the growth of women’s cricket in our area as a whole.”
Miles Bascombe, the director of cricket at CWI, greeted Dottin’s comeback and noted both her skill and potential influence on the team:
“Deandra is a very skilled and experienced gamer. Her decision to play cricket internationally again and be eligible for selection has our approval. She could undoubtedly bring a great deal of value to the West Indies women’s teams.”
The next WCPL tournament will feature Deandra Dottin leading the Trinbago Knight Riders women’s squad for the third year in a row. Dottin last competed for the West Indies in 2022. She has played in 270 ODI and T20I international matches. She achieved the first Women’s T20I century in 2010. Dottin received an Honorary Life Membership in the MCC last month.
In August 2024, West Indies Women will hold a camp. Next month, the players will participate in the CPL as well. The T20 World Cup, which will take place in Bangladesh from October 2–19, 2024, will be the next international assignment.
