Clearly, the Mavericks avoided a bullet after the most recent Bronny James rumor surfaced

Klay Thompson and a few other players that can aid the Dallas Mavericks in their quest to hoist a second championship banner in the American Airlines Center’s rafters were added during their masterful summer.

By signing Spencer Dinwiddie, they added what might be the last missing piece to the puzzle.

Given that the club recently made it to the Finals, the success of its summer initiatives will ultimately be determined by how far it gets in the 2024–25 campaign.

Nevertheless, Dallas should be encouraged to acquire reinforcements in Thompson, Dinwiddie, Naji Marshall, and Quentin Grimes without having to make many sacrifices.

Rumors of “star treatment” prevented the Mavs from selecting Bronny James, which was a risky move.
The Mavs’ success this summer can also be attributed to their decision to pass on drafting Bronny James.

The franchise apparently expressed interest in the second-generation hooper a few weeks back. The front staff never verified the rumors, so it is unclear if it was an attempt to entice Los Angeles Lakers superstar LeBron James or if Dallas was genuinely interested in the potential.

In any event, if the current rumors about the younger James are accurate, the Mavs seem to be better off without him.

As per the reports of Steve Brenner and Damian Burchardt of the U.S. Sun, there was discord among the Lakers club due to the attention and “star treatment” that the rookie from Los Angeles received while playing in Summer League. Even while other players supposedly have “nothing against” him, the younger James dominated the Lake Show universe, making it difficult for them to enjoy the past several weeks and compete for a squad slot.

One player, who wishes to remain nameless, even expressed frustration at having to battle for a job alongside his peers. Regretfully, it is possible that the players were looking to “get out” of Los Angeles at the conclusion of Summer League due to the “visible” tensions and perceived lack of chemistry or unity resulting from how the 55th overall pick of the 2024 draft was handled.

Maybe there would not have been a problem if the guard, who is 19 years old, had done a fantastic job. But in four Summer League games, he was a disaster, averaging 8.8 points, 3.5 rebounds, and 1.0 assists per game on 35.0 percent shooting from the field and 15.8 percent from outside the arc.

If the younger James had fallen to Dallas rather than the Lakers, perhaps the Mavs’ system would have made it impossible to give any preferential treatment. Nevertheless, since chemistry is strong at the moment, it is preferable for the Mavs that they decided against taking the chance of adding an unneeded distraction.

Furthermore, there might not be enough space on the team for the young player. Even though Melvin Ajinca, a French swingman who showed potential in the 2024 draft, is its only selection, it is stashing him in Europe.
