CRICKET WEST INDIES APPOINTES SIR CLIVE LLOYD FOR BEING ADVERTISED TO THE CARIBBEAN COMMUNITY’S ORDER

St. John’s, Antigua—Cricket West Indies (CWI) sincerely congratulates Sir Clive Lloyd, the renowned former West Indies captain, on receiving the esteemed Order of the Caribbean Community (OCC) at the 47th Regular Meeting of the Conference of Heads of Government of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM), which took place in Grenada on Sunday, July 28, 2024.

At the opening ceremony, Sir Clive Lloyd was honored for his outstanding services to cricket and his lasting legacy as a leader and ambassador of the game. Dr. Kishore Shallow, President of CWI, was present.

“On behalf of Cricket West Indies, I am immensely proud to extend our warmest congratulations to Sir Clive Lloyd on being conferred with the Order of the Caribbean Community,” stated Dr. Shallow.

“This award is a worthy homage to a man who has led the Caribbean and the world with unflinching inspiration and determination, in addition to being a model cricket player. The impact Sir Clive has had on cricket and his commitment to its advancement are simply unmatched.”
In the realm of cricket, Sir Clive Lloyd is a legendary character. He led the West Indies squad to two straight realm Cup championships in 1975 and 1979. His accomplishments have permanently altered the course of cricket history, and he continues to inspire upcoming generations of players long after he has finished playing.

Dr. Shallow went on to say,

“Every West Indian finds great resonance in the legacy of Sir Clive. His fortitude, tenacity, and sportsmanship have established a benchmark for what it takes to be a real champion. His long-lasting influence on our area and the game of cricket is demonstrated by CARICOM’s appreciation of him. It is a pleasure to share in this occasion with him.”
The OCC, which honors those who have made exceptional contributions to the growth and integration of the region, is the highest distinction granted by the Caribbean Community. This award further emphasizes Sir Clive Lloyd’s status as a unifying force and a symbol of Caribbean pride.
