After the team defeated the West Indies 3-0 in the Test series, former England batter Mark Butcher thinks the team has improved and shown maturity. England defeated the opposition by an innings and 114 runs at Lord’s before triumphing 241 runs at Trent Bridge in the second Test match.
They then won the third Test at Edgbaston by 10 wickets to complete a clean sweep of the series. The difference is that England can deliver that expertise and quality over extended periods of time. “England has shown refinement and improvement to what they’ve already done and what they were already capable of.”
At the end of the series, Butcher commented on Sky Sports Cricket, “The West Indies are only capable of doing it once a day for maybe an hour and a half, and were then founding wanting when England pushed back at them because they didn’t have the discipline and experience to keep prolonging it.”
Even though legendary pacer James Anderson retired, England managed to produce fast bowler Gus Atkinson and witnessed the peak of Mark Wood’s deadly abilities. It was a wise decision to start Jamie Smith as a wicketkeeper-batter rather than Jonny Bairstow or Ben Foakes.
