Defensive back Bobby McCain, who hasn’t played football since December 16, is back at the Minnesota Vikings’ NFL training camp.
Following his Sunday team workout, the former Oxford High School standout was officially signed by the Vikings on Monday. Terms weren’t made clear.
McCain joins the team as Minnesota’s secondary is beset by injuries. Along with Byron Murphy, two of the Vikings’ top three cornerbacks for 2024 are anticipated to be Mekhi Blackmon and Shaquill Griffin. However, Griffin is now sidelined by leg problems, while Blackmon is out for the season after tearing his anterior cruciate ligament during Minnesota’s first full-team session of training camp on Wednesday. On July 6, Khyree Jackson, a fourth-round draft selection of the Vikings, also passed away in a car accident.
McCain played for Minnesota defensive coordinator Brian Flores during his nine seasons in the NFL. In 2019 and 2020, Flores was the head coach of the Miami Dolphins.
On Monday, Flores said, “Love Bobby.” Bobby adores being a football player. He is intelligent. He is corporeal. Throughout his career, he has filled a variety of roles. A great deal of familiarity. He is undoubtedly a leader. Has good communication skills. And I was happy that we were going to have this chance to obtain him. I’m happy he came.
