Former Player Joins Suns Coaching Staff

The Phoenix Suns are trying to get past what they probably consider to be an extremely disappointing 2023–24 season and get back on their feet.

Pundits predicted they would make it to the NBA Finals after they acquired star guard Bradley Beal last summer and traded for future Hall of Famer Kevin Durant midway through the previous season. However, they were destroyed in the opening round of the 2024 playoffs.

As a result, after just one season in charge of the Suns, head coach Frank Vogel was fired, and Mike Budenholzer took over.

According to Adrian Wojnarowski, veteran NBA forward James Posey is joining Phoenix as an assistant coach, adding another member to Budenholzer’s staff.

Posey had a total of twelve NBA seasons playing for seven different teams, although he is most known for his time spent winning a championship with the Boston Celtics in 2007–08.

He had won it all two years before while playing for the Miami Heat, thus it was his second ring.

Posey became an assistant coach for the Cleveland Cavaliers after his playing career ended after the 2020–11 season, where he won a third ring in 2016.

Naturally, Budenholzer is a world champion himself. In 2021, he led the Milwaukee Bucks to the Larry O’Brien Trophy; same year, the Bucks, in an ironic turn of events, defeated the Suns in the NBA Finals.

Sadly, the Suns failed to make any significant additions to their squad throughout the offseason, and as a result, they may have another poor season.
