Corbin Puts Together a Trade Package to Bring Ace to the Dodgers, Busting Rumors

These possible trade packages might contain the Dodgers’ future star player.
The Los Angeles Dodgers seem to have been very aggressive in acquiring starting pitching this offseason, as evidenced by recent trade rumors. It has been reported that they are interested in acquiring Dylan Cease from the Chicago White Sox. Could they, however, sign a starting pitcher from an NL Central team in addition to possibly acquiring Cease?Corbin Burnes - Milwaukee Brewers Starting Pitcher - ESPN

Though the Brewers have not officially announced their plans, it appears they may be embarking on a rebuild following the departure of manager Craig Counsell to the Chicago Cubs. Former general manager Jim Bowden of the Cincinnati Reds and Washington Nationals believes the Dodgers may inquire about trading for Brewers pitcher Corbin Burnes earlier this week.

The Brewers have a number of players they could trade for future young prospects who could keep their team competitive for years to come if they decide to rebuild.

According to Bowden’s report, the Dodgers may consider dealing Ryan Pepiot and Emmet Sheehan, two right-handed pitchers, along with a few younger players who are currently in the low- or high-A ball league.

In addition, Bowden mentioned that the Dodgers might be able to move third baseman Jake Gelof—a second-round selection from the previous draft—and outfielder Andy Pages.

The Dodgers will inherit a pitcher who was the 2022 NL strikeout leader and the 2021 NL Cy Young winner if they are successful in landing Burnes. In addition, Burnes has been an All-Star three times and the NL ERA leader once in 2021.

Burnes went 11-5 with a 2.43 ERA, 234 strikeouts, and a 6.9 strikeout-to-walk ratio during his Cy Young award season.

As Burnes attended Loyola-Marymount University, the same institution as Dodgers manager Dave Roberts’ son Cole, the prospect of playing for the Dodgers may also have piqued his interest.

Walker Buehler and Bobby Miller are the only two members of the Dodgers staff who are guaranteed spots through 2024.

They must act, and Burnes fulfills every requirement.
