breaking news:oklahoma sooners has land a superstar from…

The Oklahoma Sooners have been active in the transfer portal, looking for players with experience who can come in and add to the roster’s competitive depth. They’ve added Michigan State offensive tackle Spencer Brown and appear to be in the running for one of the portal’s top transfers.

According to Orange Bloods’ Jason Suchomel, the Oklahoma Sooners will be one of several teams that will host elite Clemson safety Andrew Mukuba. Mukuba will travel to Texas, Oregon, and Ole Miss in the coming week, in addition to Oklahoma.

Mukuba is a four-star safety from Austin, Texas who has spent the last three seasons with the Clemson Tigers. In his collegiate career, he has played over 1,700 snaps.Spencer Brown (offensive tackle) - Wikipedia

Given their hometown advantage, the Texas Longhorns are the favorite to secure Mukuba’s commitment in the transfer portal. Mukuba’s ties to Brent Venables from their time together at Clemson, however, suggest that the Sooners could add Mukuba to their defensive backfield.

Mukuba is primarily a free safety, but he will also line up in coverage on opposing slot players. He has 143 total tackles, 4.5 tackles for loss, one interception, and 16 passes defended in three seasons. When quarterbacks targeted Mukuba in coverage in 2023, they had an NFL passer rating of 64.7, which was the 13th-best opposing passer rating in the ACC among defensive backs with at least 453 snaps on the season.Buffalo Bills on X: "We've placed OL Spencer Brown on the Reserve/Covid-19 list. At safety, the Oklahoma Sooners will retain Peyton Bowen, Robert Spears-Jennings, and Daeh McCullough in 2024. Billy Bowman is still expected to make a major decision about his future. Even if Bowman returns, the Sooners could use another difference maker in the secondary, with Woodi Washington (expected to leave for the NFL), Key Lawrence (transfer), and Reggie Pearson (eligibility) all on their way out.

Mukuba is a versatile player who excels in all aspects of the defensive position. He’s a solid tackler and excellent in coverage. His experience would help to solidify the Sooners’ defensive position while also providing more versatility on the back end.
