Aaron Rodgers understands why Tommy DeVito has been so successful with the New York Giants since taking over at quarterback.

DeVito led the Giants to a thrilling walk-off field goal victory over Rodgers’ former team, the Green Bay Packers, on Monday Night Football in Week 14. The 25-year-old signal-caller was highly efficient throughout the game and played nearly flawlessly as New York won 24-22.

DeVito finished the night 17-of-21 passing for 158 yards and one touchdown. He also rushed for 71 yards, leaving the Packers baffled as to how to stop him.

Following the performance, Rodgers was effusive in his praise for DeVito on The Pat McAfee Show. When asked how DeVito was able to be so successful despite having the same players as Daniel Jones–the Giants only won two games with Jones as QB1 this season–the four-time NFL MVP broke it down and highlighted three things: be opportunistic, make good decisions, and take care of the ball.

Rodgers emphasized that DeVito is doing just that for the Giants, allowing him to start three of the last four games. It also helps that the undrafted rookie quarterback possesses “a lot of moxie and charisma,” as the head coach of the New York Jets put it.

Aaron Rodgers couldn’t have put it better himself. Tommy DeVito is doing everything right for the New York Giants, proving that he is more than capable of leading a team rather than serving as a backup quarterback.

DeVito has helped the Giants improve to 5-8 on the season. They are still in contention for a spot in the NFC Playoffs, and while it will be difficult, the presence of their rookie quarterback gives the fanbase hope.

Tommy DeVito deserves all of the praise he’s receiving. Tommy Cutlets made New York Giants and NFL history against the Green Bay Packers.

With this performance, DeVito became the first starting quarterback since 1950 to have an 80 percent or higher pass-completion rate, rush for 70 yards or more, commit zero turnovers, and not be sacked in a game.

Even better, DeVito is the first undrafted rookie quarterback in NFL history to win three straight starts without throwing an interception and to have a passer rating of 100 or higher in all three starts.
