Giants lineback Suffers Torn Quad; Requires Surgery

Tyre Phillips, the New York Giants’ offensive lineman who had quietly filled in effectively for the injured Evan Neal at right tackle, now faces an unclear future after sustaining a ruptured right quad in the fourth quarter of the team’s 26-25 loss to the Los Angeles Rams.Tyre Phillips Looking for More Consistency on Ravens O-Line - Sports Illustrated Baltimore Ravens News, Analysis and More

During his Monday video conference call, head coach Brian Daboll verified Phillips’ injury and stated that the offensive tackle will have surgery soon.

Phillips initially suffered a knee injury earlier in the game, which cost him two snaps. He then returned after being labeled questionable and played the rest of the way until the fourth quarter, when he seemed to be rolled up on in a pile.

Phillips collapsed to the ground in anguish, and quarterback Tyrod Taylor, understanding the severity of the injury, gestured to the sideline for help. The remainder of the Giants knelt around Phillips while trainers and physicians worked on him.

Phillips was then lifted into the back of a trolley and returned to the locker room. He smiled bravely and raised his fist before departing from view of the audience.

Phillips was seen in the locker room with a wrap on his entire leg and needed help placing his sock and shoe onto his wounded limb. He left the locker room on crutches, confirming to Giants Country that he would get an MRI the next morning to ascertain the severity of his injury.Tyre Phillips Looking for More Consistency on Ravens O-Line - Sports Illustrated Baltimore Ravens News, Analysis and More

Phillips, who was with the Giants this summer, was suddenly released during the last roster transaction period. He joined the Eagles’ practice squad before returning to the Giants due to injuries to tackles Andrew Thomas and Evan Neal.

Phillips started nine games for New York this season. He will be an unrestricted free agent in the coming offseason.
