Bill Cartwright is a thoughtful, in-depth thinker and an enthusiastic listener.

In June 1988, Jordan wasn’t a fan of Krause’s trade of his best friend, Charles Oakley, to the Knicks in exchange for Cartwright, but it turned out to be one of many decisions Krause made that helped the Bulls win a championship.

Cartwright moved Krause’s widow, Thelma, to tears as she witnessed Krause provoke jeers during last Friday’s Ring of Honor ceremony. Even the syndicated newsmagazine “Inside Edition” covered the story, which made national headlines.

Support for Thelma Krause was overwhelming from the NBA, including commissioner Adam Silver, and other quarters. As is his custom, Cartwright took some time to consider his ideas before contacting NBC Sports Chicago to share them in this open letter.
