Thomas joins Lincoln following one season with the Pittsburgh Steelers. Thomas worked as an offensive assistant and helped the Steelers reach the AFC playoffs.

Rhule also revealed that offensive coordinator Marcus Satterfield will coach the Husker tight ends in 2024. Josh Martin will also return to his duties as an analyst for the Huskers, having served as temporary offensive assistant coach last season.

Thomas’ stellar resume includes five seasons under Rhule at Temple and Baylor. In each of those trips, Thomas and Rhule produced record-breaking quarterbacks in P.J. Walker of Temple and Charlie Brewer of Baylor.

“Glenn Thomas has a history of success throughout his coaching career, and I look forward to him being a part of the Nebraska football program,” Rhule said in a statement. “Glenn has proved to be an outstanding quarterback development, and his experience at both the collegiate and NFL levels is a fantastic complement.

Thomas has 15 years of college coaching experience, including 10 seasons as a coordinator. He has spent eight full seasons on NFL staffs and was instrumental in the development of NFL Pro Bowl quarterback Matt Ryan.

“I am honored for the opportunity to join a tradition-rich football program at the University of Nebraska,” Thomas said in a statement. “I have previously worked for Coach Rhule and am grateful for the opportunity to join him and his amazing staff at Nebraska. I can’t wait to come to Lincoln and work on the Husker offense.

Thomas formerly served as UNLV’s offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach (2020-21). During that time, he helped the Rebels achieve several historical milestones, including assisting running back Charles Williams in breaking the program’s career rushing record and earning first-team All-Mountain West recognition. Thomas helped create the Mountain West Freshman of the Year throughout his two seasons at UNLV. Wide receiver Kyle Williams won the award in 2020, followed by quarterback Cameron Friel in 2021. Friel set a school record for season completion % by a freshman, completing on 62.4 percent of his attempts.

Thomas has spent the previous five seasons on Rhule’s staff at Baylor and Temple. From 2017 to 2019, Thomas served as Baylor’s co-offensive coordinator and quarterback coach, helping to overhaul the program. In 2019, the Bears finished 11-2, were ranked seventh, and played in the Sugar Bowl. During Thomas’ three years at Waco, quarterback Charlie Brewer emerged as one of the best in school history, tossing 69 touchdowns in three seasons and being named a semifinalist for the 2019 Davey O’Brien Award.
