For the first time since signing the contract in December, Fonua-Blake disclosed to foxsports.com.au that he was convinced after “a couple of meetings” with coach Craig Fitzgibbon.

He said, “Some of the things he conveyed to me really resonated with some of my own personal values.”

“It felt natural.” I believe the club was the ideal fit for me; I didn’t need to go somewhere and try to fit in.He and I share a lot of characteristics, therefore I felt he would make an excellent mentor. I’ve learned a lot from “Webby,” the Warriors’ coach Andrew Webster, and I think there are many parallels between the two.

It has been understood that Fonua-Blake wants to go back to Sydney to be nearer to his family after joining the Warriors in 2021.

He acknowledged that it was “definitely” a difficult choice, especially in light of the club’s current direction, but he had no choice.

“I will always be appreciative of this club, and it will hold a particular place in my heart. Together, I experienced our low points, and we certainly had a successful year last year.

“With everyone at the club, including the CEO Cam George, the owner Mark Robinson, ‘Webby,’ and all the players, I’ve developed really strong relationships.

It was a difficult choice, but I’m the kind of guy who will always prioritize his family before his career and needs. That’s the choice I had to make, and I sincerely appreciate that the club accepted it.

“I’ve moved past it, I’m totally focused on 2024, and I’m going to do everything in my power to try and close the club on a positive note.”Going into his last season as a Warrior, Fonua-Blake is feeling a range of emotions.
