Draymond Green Says There’s Only Two Players In the NBA With Nothing Left To Prove

Draymond Green, a Warriors superstar, had a lot to say during All-Star weekend this year, and his first order of business was to clear the air on some of the game’s all-time greats. According to Green, the only two players in the league who have nothing left to prove are LeBron James and Stephen Curry.

“I say there’s two guys in the NBA who doesn’t have anything left to prove and that’s Steph and LeBron,” he remarked. “They’re in another category.”

Historically, NBA superstars have seldom extended their primes beyond the age of 35, but this is becoming more typical with players such as Kevin Durant and others. Steph Curry and LeBron James are clearly the highest bar for player longevity right now, and it’s a marvel that they’re still playing at this level after competing in four consecutive Finals from 2015-2018.

When it comes to Steph Curry, this season may not be going as well on the court or in the standings, but his legacy as one of the best offensive players of all time is already cemented. Curry, a four-time champion, two-time MVP, ten-time All-Star, nine-time All-NBA selection, and two-time scoring leader, has established himself as one of basketball’s finest point guards.

Meanwhile, LeBron James would consider another championship to be the cherry on top of an already incredible career. James has dominated the league for the past 20 years, and he is still going strong today as a four-time champion, MVP, 20-time All-Star, and 19-time All-NBA player.

So, when Draymond claims that these guys have nothing left to prove, it’s difficult to disagree. Nonetheless, it is Draymond who is going to extreme lengths to win with the Warriors, even attempting to lure LeBron James himself to join Steph and the team this season.

During the All-Star break, Draymond made it plain that he respects and admires not only Steph Curry, Klay Thompson, and his Warriors colleagues, but also LeBron James, a Klutch Sports client. This summer, he utilized his connections to try to pull off the most surprising celebrity collaboration in years.

According to various sources, the Warriors did approach the Lakers about a potential LeBron deal this season, and it made it all the way to ownership before being rejected by LeBron and his agent, Rich Paul. We may never know why James turned down the opportunity, but it was a decision that would have rocked the NBA.

Finally, teaming together is perhaps the greatest and only way for those superstars to win another championship before they retire. But they have nothing left to prove as NBA players, and they’ve done just about everything.

This season, it will be interesting to see if James or Curry can lead his teams to one more Finals run — and perhaps we’ll get to see them square off in another Lakers/Warriors rematch. But, regardless of what happens in the coming weeks, their history is already established, and they aren’t going to waste any more time obsessing about a deal that never occurred.
