Broncos key player is back….

NRL 2023: Jason Saab finds new purpose after serious knee injury | news.com.au — Australia's leading news siteManly flyer Jason Saab has appeared on US television to promote Sunday’s historic double header, with the hosts pressing the winger on one of the league’s mascots.

A Broncos legend has said Reece Walsh “hasn’t done anything compared to what he’s capable of” after the star revealed NFL switch could be on the cards in the future if he achieves his goals in rugby league.

Meanwhile, veteran rugby league reporter Phil Rothfield has issued a big warning to the pair of referees set to officiate in Las Vegas.

Sea Eagles winger Jason Saab has appeared on Las Vegas television station KLAS 8 News Now to discuss all things NRL ahead of the season opening double header in Sin City.

In a light hearted moment, Saab told the hosts that his side Manly were taking on the South Sydney Rabbitohs, which elicited presenter Ron Futrell to ask what a ‘Rabbitoh’ was.

“Ok, South Sydney Rabbitohs. So is that a rabbit?” Futrell said.

“Is that a real creature?”

Saab, who appeared a touch confused himself, replied, “they are all rabbits”.

“Every team has their own, I guess, type of totem. We have the Sea Eagles and the Broncos have the Broncos.”

In fairness to Saab, how the Rabbitohs moniker was coined is a question many NRL fans many have probably pondered, without knowing the answer.

It’s believed the nickname came about early in the 20th century when some of the team’s players would trap, kill and sell rabbits while wearing the club’s red and green jerseys and yell out ‘Rabbit-oh’ to attract the attention of prospective buyers.

Saab later explained to the American hosts that these were not “exhibition” or “friendly” games and that instead all four teams would be “putting in their best performance”.

“I definitely think we’ve brought our best four teams to the US to showcase the game and there will be more good teams coming back over the years as well,” he added.

“We’ve got a few back home that are pretty good teams as well.”

WALSH’S HUGE NFL REVEALNRL 2023: Jason Saab finds new purpose after serious knee injury | news.com.au — Australia's leading news site

Broncos superstar Reece Walsh has revealed he’s consider trying his hand at cracking the NFL in the future, currently on the verge of signing a new deal to remain in Red Hill.

According to The Courier Mail, the gun fullback’s management have begun discussions with Brisbane bosses regarding an extension worth north of $4 million.

His new deal could reportedly see him remain at the broncos until at least the end of 2028, becoming the club’s newest $1 million marquee man.

But at only 21 years of age, Walsh has a long career ahead of him and could have the star power to become an instant hit in the United States.

While the young gun admitted he still has ambitions to reach the top of the NRL, he could one day attempt to make a cross-code switch.

I’m not too sure. I’m so early in my career… Those boys (Jarryd Hayne and Val Holmes) did a lot in their careers and then made the change,” Walsh said.

“I have so much more I want to do in the game but maybe in a few years I would … we’ll see what happens.”

The Broncos have been training at the Los Angeles Rams’ facility ahead of the Las Vegas season opener, rubbing shoulders with NFL superstars.

Walsh even reportedly put on a pair of gridiron gloves and received passes from prop Matin Taupau who played quarterback during the session.

“Now that I have these gloves on, I’m going to be hitting up Abdo for an exemption to wear them (against the Roosters), so we’ll see how we go,” Walsh quipped.

“It was awesome. We watch the sport (NFL) and you wonder how they make those catches and do the amazing things they do.”

Broncos legend Corey Parker has challenged Walsh though, declaring the fullback will have “a target on his back”.

Parker believes Walsh is well on his way to superstardom, but says there are still parts of his game that needs work.Jason Saab to Sea Eagles, Reuben Garrick to Dragons in NRL player swap | Daily Telegraph

“There is no doubt that Reece has lit up the NRL, but there are still some errors in his game at times,” Parker told WWOS.

“I’ve had a lot to do with him since he was 15 and always knew he was a special talent. But really, he is still a kid and now has a huge target on his back.

“He’s got a Harry Styles-like following, but to me he still hasn’t done anything yet compared to what he is capable of.”
