The appeal of Nottingham Forest’s point deduction was heard, and the £47.5 million “issue” was resolved.

Kieran Maguire, a football financial specialist, stated that if Nottingham Forest were to win back two points, their appeal to the Premier League would be a “good result”.

After turning in their 2022–2023 financial statements, the team was penalized four points for violating the top division’s Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR). Forest promptly appealed the judgment since it brought them back into the running for relegation, and they are still not guaranteed safety this late in the season.

A decision is anticipated soon after the hearing that took place at the end of April. Although there are still unanswered questions, Maguire has offered his opinion on the subject and assured the team that hiring attorney Nick De Marco was a smart move.

See why Gary Lineker believes Nuno has transformed Nuno’s once “brilliant” Nottingham Forest career.

“If there’s one man that can come in on the 89th minute and get Nottingham Forest a result – it’s Nick De Marco,” he told Football Insider. “He is among the greatest sports lawyers in the nation, if not the best.

“I believe Forest would consider their appeal a success if they were awarded one or two points back. But since Brennan Johnson’s transfer price is at the center of the dispute, Forest’s legal team will need to use all of their persuasive skills to make that happen.”

Three months after the deadline for the transfer fee to be recorded in the previous year’s books, in September 2023, the 22-year-old left the City Ground for Tottenham Hotspur in a £47.5 million transaction. This money was pure profit for the club, as the graduate of the academy.

“On the face of it, it is an open and shut case,” Maguire said in closing.

After defeating Sheffield United on Saturday, Forest is now three points clear of Luton Town, who are in the final relegation spot. Maguire’s interpretation of a “good result” would therefore increase the deficit to five points, with a maximum of six points still up for grabs in the ongoing season.
