£5 million Rangers may buy a talent who was once considered “generational” and cut Goldson.

With players going in and out of Ibrox throughout the summer transfer window, Glasgow Rangers will have to make a number of important decisions.

For the former, head of recruitment Nils Koppen has already been working nonstop; agreements have been reached for Oscar Cortes, Jefte, and Clinton Nsiala.

According to reports, FAR Rabat forward Hamza Igamane is getting closer to joining the Scottish powerhouses permanently in order to increase Philippe Clement’s attacking options.

As their contracts ended at the end of last month, John Lundstram, Borna Barisic, Jon McLaughlin, Ryan Jack, and Kemar Roofe departed the team to become free agents.

Though further Glasgow departures are possible, the Light Blues may try to cash in on some of their contracted players in order to raise money for more new additions to bolster the squad before the transfer market closes at the end of August.

Experienced central defender Connor Goldson is one current first-team player who may be traded to make room for a successor in his position due to rumors of an addition in that part of the park.

Rangers’ pursuit of a £4 million monster

The Scotsman recently revealed that the German team is among those interested in making a summer move to recruit Salernitana defender Flavius Daniliuc.

The 23-year-old colossus, who was signed from Nice for £4 million in 2022, is reportedly being eyed by both Old Firm teams, Rangers and Celtic, to strengthen their defensive options ahead of the 2024–2025 season.

It said that in an effort to provide their respective goalkeepers additional protection the following season, both of them are looking to add fresh center backs to their rosters.

Daniliuc played his whole 2022–2023 season on loan with RB Salzburg in his native country. However, it has been claimed that they have chosen not to exercise their option to sign him permanently, while they might try to work out a new agreement with him later in the transfer window.

In the meantime, Steven Gerrard is reportedly pressuring Rangers to trade for Goldson in order to bolster his Al-Ettifaq team in Saudi Arabia, according to Football Insider.

Why Connor Goldson is a valuable asset for the Rangers

This might be the best opportunity to cash in on the 31-year-old central defender, who had a strong season with the Gers in the Scottish Premiership at the back.

The English battler, who is 31 years old, is nearing the end of his playing career and may not have much, if any, more improvement left in him. As a result, his current value may not increase.

With two years remaining on his contract, the Light Blues would also be in a difficult situation the following summer because he would only have one year left, and if they didn’t sell him in 2025 for a low price, they would run the possibility of losing him for nothing.

As a result, given the interest from Al-Ettifaq and Gerrard, this summer might be the best moment to sell the former Brighton & Hove Albion player. The Pro League team might be willing to give them a chance to make some money that they can then use to reinvest before the transfer season closes.
