It has been claimed that Coventry City is in competition with Championship opponents to sign RWDM Molenbeek full-back Ilay Camara.

The Lancashire Post reports that Preston North End is weighing its options to sign the 21-year-old Belgian, who began his career at Anderlecht. However, the right-sided winger is reportedly also being watched by the Sky Blues and another second-tier team.

Mark Robins has no competition for Milan van Ewijk and is aggressively seeking to bolster his team this summer. According to reports, Camara might cost between £1.5 and £2 million, which is comparable to what City paid for several players over the summer.

The versatility of the player, who can also play as a right winger or right midfielder, would appeal to Coventry, who have been searching for quality additions to rival Tatsuhiro Sakamoto, who was also selected from the Belgian divisions. Raphael Borges Rodrigues, a 20-year-old right winger from Macarthur FC of the Australian A-League, has already been signed by the team.

After joining from Anderlecht in the summer of last year, Camara went on to score three goals and provide three assists for the Belgian Pro League team. He was a 2022–2023 player for Anderlecht’s ‘B’ squad, RSCA Futures, and is regarded as a quick and aggressive full back.

According to a story in the Lancashire Post, Preston is reportedly eager to relocate permanently, but during preliminary discussions, a loan with a buyout option has also been proposed.

A transfer to the Championship would appeal to the player, even though North End is not the only team that thinks highly of him. At least two other league teams are considering Camara, who may cost between £1.5 and £2 million. Coventry City is one of those teams.
