“Over £10 million” – Cardiff City urged to demand 8-figure fee if Ipswich Town come calling

Cardiff City, under Erol Bulut, is hoping to progress in the Championship, and they have a packed summer transfer window scheduled.

Things appear promising for the upcoming season as the Bluebirds may now make purchases during the summer window for the first time since 2022 and manager Bulut inked a new contract in early June.

The 49-year-old has already started assembling his team for the upcoming season, as Oliver Denham, Sheyi Ojo, Romaine Sawyers, and Rohan Luthra are all expected to depart the team when their contracts expire.

Although there will probably be more departures in the upcoming months, Bulut will likely want to cling onto his core players in the hopes that the team can contend for the play-offs in 2024–2025.

Young midfield sensation Rubin Colwill is one player who has been linked to leaving, with several Premier League teams apparently vying for his signature, including Kieran McKenna of Suffolk Town.

Rubin Colwill cannot afford to leave Cardiff City for better opportunities.

The journalist Darren Witcoop revealed that McKenna is a fan of Colwill’s, but he also mentioned that it is doubtful that the 22-year-old will be moving this summer.

The Wales international has long been a valued member of the Bluebirds team, but recent injury setbacks have hindered his development.

Ben Johnsey, a Cardiff supporter for FLW, acknowledges the interest in Colwill and his desire to transfer, but he thinks any deal is unlikely and that it would be a mistake for the team to let him go.

Ben stated to Football League World, “I think it would take a lot to prise him away, though he is from Cardiff and came through our academy, so I can see why Ipswich would be a favourable move for Colwill, with the way they play and the fact that they’re a Premier League side.”

“In my opinion, he is worth more than £10 million, primarily due to his potential and ceiling. Despite a few injury-plagued seasons, he has proven to be a gifted player.

“I believe that selling him now would be foolish on the part of Cardiff, as I believe that if they give it a year or two, you might treble his price or at least reach that £10, £15 million barrier, where a club is unlikely to offer more than £5 or £6 million for him right now.

“Although it’s a possibility, I can see him remaining in Cardiff this season.”

This summer, Rubin Colwill shouldn’t be leaving Cardiff City.

Rubin Colwill Wales

Before the 2019–20 season, the Bluebirds should sell Colwill, and the only reason they would consider doing so would be if a Premier League team made an unbelievable offer.

That doesn’t seem likely, though, as the 22-year-old has the ability to play at the highest level and hasn’t really started living up to his potential in his brief career thus far because of injuries and a lack of opportunities.

Colwill has been a member of the team since he was eight years old, and he made his professional debut in February 2021 against Coventry City. Despite making 107 appearances for the team since then, Colwill has never been able to secure a starting spot under five different permanent managers.

He has the ability to join a team like Ipswich or even a top-six team like Arsenal, with whom he was previously linked by journalist Paul Abbandonato, as seen by his impressive performances over the last few years for both club and country. However, for the time being, he should remain at Cardiff to grow and establish himself as a star in the Championship.

Bulut ought to start assembling his squad around a player of Colwill’s caliber ahead of the upcoming campaign, allowing the team to maximize his potential for the ensuing few years before looking to offload him for a high price when the time is appropriate.
