Man Utd in Negotiations to ‘Pre-Agree’ Major Summer Signing After Star Gives Green Light

Manchester United are making progress in negotiations for what could be the second major signing of the Ruben Amorim era. However, despite the player’s eagerness to join, a significant gap remains between United’s offer and the club’s valuation, according to a reliable source.

Amorim was given just one first-team signing in his first transfer window—Patrick Dorgu, who arrived from Lecce for £25m and immediately secured a starting role at wing-back. Financial constraints limited further signings, as United risked breaching PSR regulations without generating funds from player sales.

A similar scenario is unfolding ahead of the summer window, but that hasn’t stopped United from laying the groundwork for another wing-back addition to suit Amorim’s 3-4-2-1 system.

Reports from Portugal previously suggested that United had all but finalized a deal to reunite Amorim with Sporting CP’s Geovany Quenda. However, The Athletic’s David Ornstein has provided a more measured update, stating that United are still “exploring” a potential move.

Ornstein also revealed that United are aiming to negotiate a deal for the 17-year-old at around £33m (€40m), a figure significantly lower than Quenda’s £84m (€100m) release clause.

According to a fresh update from reporter Ben Jacobs, Manchester United are making strides in their pursuit of the Portuguese sensation. Additionally, Quenda is open to making the move to Old Trafford.

That disparity in valuation is a challenge that all parties will need to address.

Quenda is highly versatile and can operate across both flanks, though he primarily played as a right wing-back during Amorim’s final months before his move to Old Trafford.

His arrival would not only give Amorim a natural right wing-back but also enable the left-footed Dorgu to play in his preferred role on the left flank.
