Mark Cuban reveals the fascinating process of selecting Jalen Brunson.
The Dallas Mavericks were excited to usher in a new era when they made their NBA Draft selection in 2018. Luka Doncic was selected by the Mavs with the third overall pick, and he has proven to be an ideal addition to the team as they look to develop a franchise player. However, the Mavs required a different talent in the selection to go with Doncic.
In the second round of the draft, the Mavericks were selected with the first pick (33rd overall). When selecting a second-round pick, teams must get exceptional value, and the Mavs selected Villanova’s Jalen Brunson. Although there were others who believed the Mavs had erred, Brunson would mature into a dependable starter beginning in the 2020–21 campaign.

The “Roommates Show” featured Mark Cuban alongside Josh Hart, Matt Hillman, and Brunson. In 2018, Brunson was draughted by Cuban; Hart questioned why.
Given that Brunson was a winner and champion at Villanova, Cuban disclosed that Mavericks scouts were urging him to select Brunson first, arguing that “you can’t put a value on that.” However, several Mavs organisation members wanted to ensure that Yogi Ferrell, who averaged 10.2 points per game in the 2017–18 season and was a member of the 2017 NBA All-Rookie Second Team, could stay with the team.
