Matthijs de Ligt has acknowledged that Manchester United’s players must take responsibility for their struggles this season and emphasized the importance of unity within the squad.
Following their 1-0 defeat to Tottenham on Sunday, United find themselves in 15th place in the Premier League, having secured just four league wins since Ruben Amorim took charge in November.
In the wake of their latest setback, De Ligt delivered a strong message to his teammates, stressing that individual efforts won’t be enough to turn things around. “If we try to do everything on our own, we will never get results,” he warned.
Speaking to MUTV after the match, the defender admitted: “When you lose, it’s clear that many things need to improve. Right now, we are not where United should be—we’re not winning games. There’s a lot of work to be done.”
“If I had the solution, I would have shared it, and we’d be winning games. Unfortunately, there are many areas that need improvement. First and foremost, we must take responsibility and remain united as a team.
“If we try to do everything individually, we won’t get results. We need to stick together, analyze what went wrong, understand the key differences in this game, and figure out why we are losing instead of winning.
“Right now, it’s not good enough for United—we’re not winning enough, not converting our chances, and conceding too many goals. There are several aspects that need to improve, and hopefully, things will start to get better soon.”
