Miami Dolphins lock in Tua Tagovailoa with historic NFL deal before 2024 season

Tua Tagovailoa has decided to extend his contract with the Miami Dolphins, setting a new record for salary over a four-year period at $53.1 million annually.

Tua Tagovailoa has signed a massive four-year extension at a whooping $212.4 million (£169.2 million) with the Miami Dolphins prior to the 2024 NFL season.

After having his best season to date, Tagovailoa, 26, was about to play out the remaining years of his $23 million (£18.3 million) rookie contract. Because of his outstanding performance, the Dolphins opted to give him the highest-ever four-year contract in NFL history: $53.1 million (£42.8 million) each year for the following four years.

Under this innovative arrangement, a total of $167 million (£132.9 million) is guaranteed. The talented quarterback shared his excitement on social media. He stated in a video message shared by GOAT Farm Media, “Hey everyone, Tua here. I just wanted to let you know that I approved of the contract renewal.”

After that, he thanked Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel for believing in him and gave his teammates credit for their unwavering support. With an outstanding 11-6 record, Tagovailoa was a key player in guiding the Dolphins to the postseason the previous year.

The remarkable performances were acknowledged even though they were defeated by the Kansas City Chiefs, who went on to win the Super Bowl. After a great season with Alabama in which he lost only two of his twenty-four starts, Tagovailoa was selected by the Dolphins with their fifth overall choice in 2020, demonstrating their unwavering faith in him.

With a 32-19 record while he was with the Dolphins, Tagovailoa’s team has been winning more and more games. The previous season, when he set career highs in passing yards (4,624) and touchdowns (29), was when his play was at its best.

The Dolphins had the finest offense in the NFL the previous season, and with the addition of veteran wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr., they have raised the stakes for 2024. When Tua will ink a new deal was the question that always remained unanswered. But as the 2024 season approached, supporters started to voice their concerns.

After teammate Tyreek Hill asked supporters to “be patient” with Tagovailoa just two weeks prior, the agreement quickly came to fruition. As his $23 million rookie contract came to an end, Tagovailoa signed a new deal that will pay him almost ten times as much.

“Both parties are aware of their mutual dependence. Just have patience; the Miami Dolphins are aware of his talent as a quarterback and Tua’s desire to remain in Miami,” Hill said on July 12. “Whenever it is time, it is time.”

Later, Hill said that although he thought the 26-year-old would take his teammates into consideration, Tagovailoa deserved to be the highest paid quarterback in the league. “Everyone will be content. Tua loves his friends and his team and wants to keep the guys together, so he is not a very selfish guy,” he said.

“He understands that if he signs a deal that is friendly, he will be able to keep a lot of people around.” Nevertheless, Hill continued, “I hope he ends up being the highest paid because he deserves it.” If you comprehend Tua’s background, his entire journey, and all the obstacles he has faced from the time he was drafted to the present. It is a tale reminiscent to Cinderella.”

The Miami Dolphins are in a better place now that Tua Tagovailoa’s contract is settled, and he is prepared to lead an impressive offense once more. Good sentiments are further enhanced by the fact that Hill has indicated he is committed to staying in Miami for the long run. He is keen to maintain his explosive wide receiver tandem with Jaylen Waddle and is thrilled to have Odell Beckham Jr. join the mix.

“I just told my agent ‘Look, do not get me traded this time’ as I do not want to leave Miami,” Hill said. “I adore Miami. I am therefore happy with my current situation, whatever it takes. I adore the group, the head coach, and the team itself. I am sure that will occur.”
