NFL analyst believes the injury to Travis Kelce would cause problems for the whole AFC

It’s easy to discover heated opinions in the sports media that rapidly become stale. It’s a part of the territory. There have been forecasts made by me that quickly came to pass. However, I heard one of the worst takes I’ve heard in a long time earlier this week.

The Herd with Colin Cowherd is one of the most well-liked sports talk programs on the air. I listen to Cowherd’s shows on a daily basis and really appreciate him. However, Cowherd also has a “assistant” (if you can call him that) who works across from him and occasionally offers commentary. Currently holding the position is Jason McIntyre, a.k.a. J-Mac.

This take should go straight into the freezer, Jason McIntyre.
J-Mac has made some really bad jokes, and occasionally it seems like Cowherd is embarrassed by them. This incident recurred earlier this week when McIntyre and Cowherd discussed the aging of Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce and his potential increased risk of injury.

It’s reasonable to have that conversation, but what McIntyre said after that is beyond astounding. What would happen to the Chiefs if Kelce missed eight games this season? was the hypothetical question he posed. J-Mac believes that the Chiefs are doomed in this situation. The cause? “Their wide receivers are probably a bottom seven group.” The bottom seven?

The entire conversation can be heard here, beginning at the twenty-minute point. However, as he continued to speak, Cowherd appeared somewhat taken aback. What justifies him labeling the Chiefs’ wide receiver group as one of the “bottom seven”? There’s a question mark by Rashee Rice, followed by a query about whether Xavier Worthy is superior to *looks through notes* Brandin Cooks. (Cooks has played for more teams than I can remember. He is currently a wide receiver for the Dallas Cowboys.)

There are just so many issues with this perspective. McIntyre genuinely believes that an injury to Travis Kelce will ruin the entire AFC. Although Kelce is the best tight end of all time, could an injury ruin a conference call? Please give me a moment.

Let’s go back to the Chiefs wide outs and the “bottom seven” consensus. While it’s possible that Rashee Rice will get a suspension, that seems less and less likely by the day. To suggest that Xavier Worthy isn’t quite as good as Brandin Cooks, though? Are you telling the truth?

First of all, I’m not sure how Cooks’ travels have made him a bad wide receiver; I don’t get how it was meant to be offensive. However, it’s clearly clear that Worthy will likely outperform Cooks even in training camp (something Cowherd did, thank goodness).

Hello, J-Mac Have you recently watched this video?

Did J-Mac also overlook the fact that Hollywood Brown was signed by the Chiefs during the off-season? I get why you don’t want to declare this team as one of the NFL’s top seven. To suggest they are the bottom seven, though? That was in 2023, and Brett Veach expressly used the draft and free agency to restructure this team. Justin Watson, Mecole Hardman, Nikko Remigio, Kadarius Toney, Skyy Moore, and other potential roster members are not included in that. Once more, the bottom seven?

Returning to McIntyre’s initial argument, the Chiefs’ chances of winning three straight titles would be severely damaged if Travis Kelce were to miss a significant portion of the season. Sad? Indeed. A ruin for the season? Not even near. Recall that just a year ago, Patrick Mahomes led his “bottom seven” receiving corps to victory in the Super Bowl.

J-Mac needs to put this immediately in the freezer.
