Young tennis player Carlos Alcaraz of Spain expressed his sadness after losing against Rafael Nadal in the men’s doubles division. In the doubles division of the competition, the two were thought to be among the best pairings. Nevertheless, their run was cut short as they were defeated in straight sets, 6-2, 6-4, by American duo Austin Krajicek and Rajeev Ram in the quarterfinals.
Alcaraz, who was competing alongside his childhood idol Rafael Nadal, is recognized as one of the best men’s tennis players of all time in the singles division, having won up to 22 Grand Slam championships. Alcaraz expressed his displeasure with the outcome to the media following the game.
Along with Serbia’s Novak Djokovic and Italy’s Jannik Sinner, the 21-year-old is already recognized as one of the best men’s tennis players in the world in the singles division. He went on to say that his experience playing with his idol was “every single minute” and that it was a “great” experience overall. Alcaraz went on to say that his current main goal is to try to deflect attention so that he can concentrate on his next goal, which is to compete in the singles category quarterfinals.
He remarked, “[We were] So close.” For me, it has been fantastic. I wanted to savor every moment we spent playing together since I found it enjoyable. We’ve played fantastic rallies, points, and matches, in my opinion. However, at this moment, I’m a little let down. Needless to say, we wanted to continue. Our goal was to triumph and secure the opportunity to compete for the Spanish medal. We were unable to continue, but I’m going to make an effort to remember this unpleasant experience, move on to tomorrow, and forget about it.”
Alcaraz defeated Russian Roman Safiullin in straight sets, 6-4, 6-2, to secure his spot in the singles tournament’s final eight. He will play Tommy Paul of the United States, who earned a quarterfinal berth by defeating Corentin Moutet of France in straight sets, 7-6, 6-3.
