Onana’s error was costly, but this disastrous player has no place in a Manchester United shirt ever again.

Manchester United fell to a 1-0 defeat against Tottenham Hotspur. Here are our player ratings from the match:

(A score of 6 represents an average performance.)

Starting XI

Andre Onana – 2
A costly error led to Tottenham’s goal after a poor parry into a dangerous area. His distribution was also below par.

Noussair Mazraoui – 6.5
Defended well to limit Son Heung-min’s impact and delivered a fantastic cross for Zirkzee, which should have resulted in a goal.

Harry Maguire – 6
Steady in the center of the back three. Didn’t make any major mistakes but wasn’t particularly influential.

Matthijs de Ligt – 5
Lost track of James Maddison for the goal and needed better awareness. Recovered somewhat but still below his usual standard.

Diogo Dalot – 4
Missed a good opportunity inside the box and struggled to contribute in attack. Allowed Son too much space on the right at times.

Casemiro – 2
A tough outing. Frequently dispossessed, careless in possession even under little pressure, and struggled to keep up defensively. Looks out of his depth at this level.

Bruno Fernandes – 4
Created a golden chance for Garnacho, but the Argentine couldn’t convert. Otherwise, he was unusually ineffective and careless with the ball.

Patrick Dorgu – 6
Didn’t see much of the ball but made the most of his moments. Pushed forward when possible and held his ground defensively.

Alejandro Garnacho – 5
Missed a clear chance to equalize and failed to trouble Vicario with his other efforts. Hesitated too often instead of playing in Dorgu on the overlap.

Joshua Zirkzee – 7 (Man of the Match)
One of United’s brighter players, particularly in the first half. Held up play well and linked up effectively. Should have scored with his header from Mazraoui’s cross.

Rasmus Hojlund – 3
Struggled once again, though he looked slightly more comfortable when drifting wide.

Substitutes

Chido Obi – 5
Came on in stoppage time for his senior debut. Had little time to make an impact.
