Saints quarterback Jake Haener discloses his cancer diagnosis

On Friday, quarterback Jake Haener of the New Orleans Saints gave the media an update on his personal condition.

Haener was observed wearing a tiny circular bandage on his cheek when he spoke with the media. Reporters were informed by the 25-year-old quarterback that he has a rare type of skin cancer. Haener saw a dermatologist to get a lump on his face removed, which worried him, about a week before training camp started.

Haener stated that the bump’s strange appearance and continued growth disturbed him. It turned out to be a rare kind of cancer after a biopsy.

Haener had to get surgery to remove the bulge. He said he will talk about the situation with a doctor during the team’s August 1 off-day.

The second-year quarterback claimed that his mental health is good and that he is taking the appropriate action to resolve the problem.

Haener is vying with Nathan Peterman and Spencer Rattler for a position behind Saints starter Derek Carr on the depth chart. In 2023, he was selected by New Orleans in the fourth round.
