When the Miami Dolphins called for defensive end assistance, Emmanuel Ogbah was ready.
Emmanuel Ogbah, a former Cleveland Browns second-round selection, established himself as a formidable edge rusher with consecutive nine-sack seasons while playing for the Miami Dolphins. After finding it difficult to play in Vic Fangio’s defense, he was discharged at the end of the previous season, but his absence was brief.
During practice on Thursday, Ogbah stated, “It came down to two teams.” “I’m thrilled to be back in Miami because I feel like there’s unfinished business here.”
Prior to Ogbah’s return to Miami, the Kansas City Chiefs expressed interest in signing him, according to Cameron Wolfe of NFL Network. After Shaq Barrett declared his intention to retire from football, the Dolphins needed more reinforcements and selected defensive end Chop Robinson with the 21st overall pick in the NFL Draft.
Ogbah remarked, “I had all the time in the world to get ready—mentally and physically, just to get ready for this season.” Although I had no idea where I would end up, I’m glad I’m here.
“Like I mentioned, I had plenty of time to prepare, so I knew I would be ready for any call I received.”
With two years remaining on a four-year, $65.4 million deal signed in 2022, Ogbah was released in February. While $4 million remained on the books as dead money, the move created $13 million in salary cap space. With a basic salary of $2 million, he is back for a one-year contract and ready to make a big impact in defensive coordinator Anthony Weaver’s first-year scheme.
Regarding the defense, Ogbah remarked, “The energy is different.” The team’s spirit isn’t the same. Guys are just having joy again going out there and wanting to play for each other.
“I’m everywhere on the d-line or OLB; I don’t have a specific position, so I’m just ready to play whatever is required.”
