TRANSFER NEWS: Phillies acquire Tanner Banks from the White Sox

Pushing up against Tuesday’s 5 PM CT trade deadline, the Chicago White Sox transferred relief pitcher Tanner Banks to the Philadelphia Phillies, citing Fansided’s Robert Murray . The Phillies are transferring prospect William Bergolla to the White Sox as part of the deal, according MLB.com’s Scott Merkin.

Banks didn’t make his MLB debut until his age-30 season but has been a consistent lefty option in the White Sox bullpen since earning the call in 2022. The southpaw sports a 4.13 ERA and 10.3 K/9 across 48 innings for the South Siders this season.

The Phillies boast MLB’s best record and have World Series aspirations. Banks will now get an opportunity to throw in crucial games down the stretch of the 2024 campaign.

William Bergolla, a 19-year-old second baseman, was the No. 11 prospect in the Phillies’ system, per MLB Pipeline. The left-handed hitter is slashing .295/.350/.385 with 12 doubles, one home run, and 29 RBIs across 267 plate appearances with High-A Jersey Shore this season.

The White Sox have loaded up on young infielders this deadline, having acquired three from the Los Angeles Dodgers in a three-team transaction on Monday.
