Manchester City have seen several talented players depart the Etihad Stadium in recent years.
Pep Guardiola sanctioned the sales of Julián Álvarez to Atlético Madrid and João Cancelo to Al Hilal last summer, while Kyle Walker was also granted permission to join AC Milan in January.
Kay stated, “This came to my attention this morning. It was brought up to someone I’m very close with during the post-match press conference alongside other journalists at Tottenham on Sunday.”
“Manchester United have informed Amorim that there is a possibility of Cancelo joining the club, ultimately leaving the decision in the manager’s hands.
“As soon as I heard that, I started connecting the dots—where the information came from, the Portuguese connection between the player and the manager, but then there’s the Man City factor and the fact that Cancelo left on bad terms. Suddenly, everything started falling into place. I trust my sources, and there is a real possibility. I’d estimate a fee of around £30m.
“My main question was whether he would make the move after playing for City. But after speaking with a few people today, it’s clear that Cancelo has the kind of temperament where he simply doesn’t care about that. He has no regard for City’s hierarchy and wouldn’t be concerned about the switch.”
