Free agent Tyus Jones has joined the Phoenix Suns on a one-year contract, as confirmed by his agent, Kevin Bradbury of Lift Sports Management. Jones will earn $3.3 million from the deal.
Before becoming a free agent, Jones averaged 12.0 points and 7.3 assists per game for the Washington Wizards during the 2023-24 NBA season. His addition will bolster the Suns’ point guard position, an area where the team currently lacks strength.
“The opportunity to play for the Phoenix Suns made sense on many levels for me and my family — from the way [governor] Mat Ishbia and the front office recruited me to how coach [Mike Budenholzer] showed me I could significantly impact a team with a real chance to compete for an NBA title as their starting point guard,” Jones said in an interview after signing with the Suns.
Before his four seasons with the Wizards, Jones played for the Memphis Grizzlies for four seasons and started his career with the Minnesota Timberwolves. He was a key player in the 2022 playoffs for the Grizzlies, averaging 9.2 points, 4.5 assists, and 1.2 steals in 12 playoff games.
