In Real Betis’ La Liga match against Real Sociedad on Sunday, Antony, a Manchester United loanee, scored his third goal.
Antony’s catastrophic two-and-a-half-year tenure at Old Trafford came to an end when he left United during the January transfer window.
His return across all competitions since the start of the 2023–24 season was a pitiful four goals in 52 appearances. He scored three Premier League goals in his first three games for the Red Devils, but only two more in the 59 games that followed.
In an attempt to revitalize his career and secure consistent first-team playing time, the Brazilian joined Betis.
It would be an understatement to suggest that he has jumped right in at Spain. Last Saturday, he scored his first goal in the Premier League against Celta Vigo. On Thursday, he scored again as the team defeated Gent 3-0 in the Europa Conference League.
Antony now has his third goal for Betis.
In an attempt to resume winning ways in the league, Manuel Pellegrini’s team hosted Sociedad at Estadio Benito Villamarin.
Since neither team was able to penetrate the other’s defense, the first half finished without a goal. But only six minutes after the restart, Antony broke the impasse.
A teammate nodded Isco’s accurate cross into the danger area after he sent it into the box. Sociedad’s feeble clearing was ideal for Antony, who was hiding there.
The winger displayed excellent skill to connect with the ball, unleashing a powerful left-footed strike that left Álex Remiro helpless.
Moments later, Antony nearly doubled his score, but his shot missed the mark by a narrow margin.
In his four outings for Betis in all competitions, the 24-year-old has now recorded three goals and an assist.
Marc Roca, Antony’s teammate, then scored twice in five minutes to give them all three points versus Sociedad.
