As Royce Lewis made his formal return to the Minnesota Twins, he hit a home run in his second game after returning from suffering an injury.
Lewis, who was going to be facing off against Tarik Skubal, the top pitcher for the Detroit Tigers and a favorite for the Cy Young award, turned on the first pitch he saw and smashed it 402 feet over the centerfield wall. With this home shot, he hit his 11th of the year and his first since the 21st of June.
As Lewis has progressed through his brief career, he has demonstrated a propensity for hitting home runs after being sidelined for extended periods of time due to injuries. After suffering a quadriceps injury on Opening Day, Lewis returned to the Twins earlier in the year and hit a home run in his first at-bat after being sidelined for 58 games on account of the injury. However, after spending another period on the injured list, it took him two games before he was finally able to advance to the next level.
Late in the month of June, he revealed that he had a right adductor strain, which caused him to miss sixteen games. In Minnesota’s 9-3 victory over the Tigers, Lewis made his return on Friday, but he was unable to hit a home run or knock in a run. He finished with a batting average of 1 for 5.
The 25-year-old has had a difficult time staying on the field, not only during this season but also ever since he made his debut in the Major League Baseball in 2022. With that in mind, Lewis has made modifications to his diet and fitness regimens, but with August approaching, he’s participated in only 26 games.
