In preparation for their home series against South Africa, Kemar Roach is expected to rejoin the West Indies Test team. Due to a knee injury sustained during the County Championship, Roach was unable to participate in the West Indies’ just finished tour of England.
Alzarri Joseph, another fast bowler, has been rested, and Joshua Da Silva, a batsman and wicketkeeper, has assumed the vice captaincy.
Head coach Andre Coley stated in a CWI news release, “We have decided to rest our vice-captain Alzarri Joseph for this series.” “Alzarri has been working a lot lately, so this break will help him recover and get back to his best.”
“As far as Alzarri is concerned, it always helps to have a period of time away from the game to work on your individual skills, because you could get drawn into moving from one tournament to the next and might actually lose some of your skills,” Coles said in an interview with ESPNcricinfo, outlining a long-term outlook for Alzarri’s workload management.
Thus, it involves incorporating appropriate downtime for him to do nothing and interspersing short bursts of time when he is not competing. He will be able to exert more control over his bowling in this way.
All-rounder Kevin Sinclair, who bowls off spin, is not included in the team because he is still healing from a fractured left forearm he sustained in Nottingham after he was struck by a ball thrown by Mark Wood during the England trip.
The 15-man roster now includes uncapped offspinner Bryan Charles, pace-bowling all-rounder Justin Greaves, and left-arm spinner Jomel Warrican, who did not play in the England tour.
Notable absences include Jeremiah Louis, who pulled out of the final Test in England because of a hamstring injury, and Akeem Jordan, who took his place.
Akeem Jordan, Kirk McKenzie, and Zachary McCaskie are the other people who had to make room. Despite playing all three Test matches in England, McKenzie managed just 33 runs in six innings. McCaskie has not yet made his Test debut, however he did participate in the West Indies’ tours to Australia and England.
The director of cricket at CWI, Miles Bascombe, stated, “Andre Coley, our head coach, led the selection process for this squad. This is subject to the implementation of our new selection process, which will be rolled out in the coming days and articulated publicly shortly.”
West Indies, who have only won once in seven games in the World Test Championship, are currently bottom of the standings after a 3-0 drubbing in England. The two Test matches against South Africa are scheduled for August 7–11 in Port-of-Spain, Trinidad, and August 15–19 in Providence, Guyana.
