OSTON: After playing for the Red Sox in 2023, James Paxton ought to feel at home at Fenway Park.
As it happens, he does.
After making a solid start against the Red Sox a week ago, Paxton was designated for assignment by the Los Angeles Dodgers, who acquired him over the weekend.
The lefty is back in the Fenway clubhouse and primed to have another big impact in Boston.
Paxton told reporters on Sunday, “It’s great.” It seems as though I never left, as I previously stated. All of them gave me a warm welcome. It’s a pleasure to be here. Here, I feel at ease. eager to see what we have planned.
With the Dodgers this season, Paxton was 8-2 with a 4.43 ERA in 18 starts. As the season progressed, he saw his stuff and velocity get better, with his most notable performance coming in a start against Boston. He’s been in good health this year, so he’s prepared to continue getting better with the Red Sox.
Paxton said, “Physically, I feel great.” “At this time, there are no problems.”I’m going to keep pushing myself and attempt to maintain this level of effort.
Last winter, the veteran lefty gave serious thought to re-signing with Boston. However, he and his family decided to go to the West Coast, and that choice ultimately resulted in the Dodgers trade.

“I was really happy that I had a feeling I was coming back here,” Paxton remarked. “My agency knew that Boston was attempting to entice me to come to this place.” I knew this was a real possibility, for the most part. I’m thrilled to be here and I absolutely enjoy Boston.
Despite requiring upgrades due to young starters piling up innings, Paxton joins a Boston staff that has distinguished itself in 2024.
“I’m feeling good this year,” Paxton continued. “I’m in good health and I can’t wait to contribute to this team’s efforts and push for the postseason.”
The Red Sox will start Paxton against the Seattle Mariners on Tuesday.
